Field Missions in India and El Salvador

Two field missions of ILS LEDA experts are going during these weeks: one in the Osmanabad District-Maharashtra State, India, and the other one in the Department of La Union, El Salvador.

The mission in India is running in the framework of the European Union’s ISUDWOG project (“Inclusive and Sustainable Development for Women”), and it is conducted by Vincenzo Milio, the ILS LEDA deputy President, and General Director, supported by the lead partner SSP. Vincenzo is in charge of:

  • Sharing the final strategic guidelines and the priority actions for the four selected value chains: Pulses, Goat, Milk, and Vegetables (Chilli and Onions) with the local actors of the Osmanabad district. The main output is to identify the priority for the ISUDWOG actions during the next 12 months.
  • Supporting the final steps of the design of the ASIDO (The Association for the Inclusive and Sustainable Development of Osmanabad), including legal framework, priority tasks, operational model, sustainability plan, and plan of actions. The project has already promoted the membership of about 60 public and private institutions and organisations.
  • Overseeing the final steps of the design and implementation of the DSS (District Service System), a platform working in the framework of ASIDO, for facilitating the coordination of the current service providers, and a more easy and integrated access mainly for small businesses, women, and young people. 27 public and private Service Providers have already confirmed their participation to the DSS, and 3 DSS village branches have been constituted.

The Mission in El Salvador is running in the framework of the European Union’s ALINVEST Green project ("Innovations and development for the green economy”), in the departments of La Unión and San Miguel, and aims at analysing three selected value chains: milk, vegetables, and beekeeping.

Giulia Rucireta, the General Director assistant, supported by the lead partner, LEDA "La Union", will work through workshops with the already established value chains' Focus Groups, for applying the ILS LEDA RESCO methodology and assessing for each value chain:

  • The competitive advantages, and its causes.
  • The market positioning and targets.
  • The value chains assets (inputs, green inputs, information, equipment and technology, complementary initiatives, services, and by-products), their internal links, and needs.
  • The Economic, Social, and Institutional sustainability.
  • The gender equality.
  • The obstacles to the full value chain development.

This assessment will provide the essential inputs for the elaboration of the value chains strategic guidelines, that is one of the project’s expected results.
